Compared to thyristors, IGBT transistors can not only control conduction but also actively control turn-off actions at will. Thyristors however, are passively turned off and require more time to complete the action. This leads to IGBT transistors having a much higher power factor of ≥97% and furnace voltage of 380V under the same input voltage.
